What is Societal Marketing and its Importance?

As seen from the very 1st post  in which we talked about marketing and its importance in business world. Now we are going to move a little bit forward by talking about societal marketing concept.

"The societal marketing concept holds that the organization’s task is to determine the needs, wants, and interests of target markets and to deliver  the desired  satisfactions  more effectively and efficiently than competitors, in a way that preserves or enhances the consumer's and the society's well-being." (Kotler, Philip, 1994)

The societal marketing concept is an enlightened marketing concept that holds that a company should make good marketing decisions by considering consumers' wants, the company's requirements, and society's long-term interests. It is closely linked with the principles of corporate social responsibility and of sustainable development.

There seems to be a lot of confusion over what is meant by "societal marketing". For one thing, it has nothing at all to with using social networking sites as a marketing tool.
Societal marketing is about not selling foods that are high in sugar content in countries where there are hardly any dentists. It is also about selling healthy snacks to western school kids, rather than burgers and fries.

Examples of companies adopted the societal marketing concept:

1. The Body Shop International plc. is the original, natural and ethical beauty brand. The company uses only plant based materials for its products. It is against Animal testing, supports community trade, activate Self Esteem, Defend Human Rights, and overall protection of the planet. They have also their own charity, The Body Shop Foundation, to assist those working to achieve progress in the areas of human and civil rights, environmental and animal protection. Thus Body shop is really following the concept of Societal Marketing.
2. AVON Product Inc. has started an initiative known as Avon breast cancer awareness crusade in 1993 in partnership with National Alliance of breast cancer Foundation (NABCO).They started selling pink ribbon pins which depicts the international symbol for breast cancer for$ 2 and donates $1 to NABCO. Through the crusade Avon sale representatives have raised billions of dollars for breast cancer education and access to early detection services for underserved woman. In addition, Avon’s 45000000 US sales people have been trained to discuss breast cancer and importance of early detection with their customers and distributed 80 million flyers on breast cancer detection.

The societal marketing concept has become an excellent strategy for promotions with social dimensions and for exploring consumers’ behavioral response to such corporate ‘doing well’. Societal marketing can lead to the development of desirable products and long-term, mutually beneficial relationships, enhancing consumers' well-being without harm to society.

Green Marketing Part of Societal Marketing technique:

WHERE DO GOOD IDEAS COME FROM ?

The pencil, flush toilet, cameras, smart phones, the battery- these all are great idea but where do they come from ? what sparks the flash of brilliance ?
The x-generation would set aside an hour ,turn off all distractions and grab a blank paper to jot down ideas whereas the y-generation would actually would find distractions so very useful when it comes down to thinking of great ideas like jogging, listening to loud music, long conversations with friends, long rides on a bus/ train or showering.

After brainstorming , there are certain steps to take to proceed with your ideas.
  • Generating great ideas come from external stimulation so whenever you feel like you can't think of great ideas, change your environment.
  • Document that idea whether on an analog or digital tool, jot it down.Do not trust your memory
  • Organize your ideas or else you will never be able to figure out which ones to actually act on.
  • Make a habit of going through your list of ideas and culling out ones you're never going to use.
  • Take your best ideas and execute them. That is where success comes from.

Ideas tend to come when you least expect them to, so document, organize and cull them before executing them the best way possible.

"The best way to have a good idea is to have
a lot of ideas".

DELEGATION IN MANAGEMENT

Hi all you lovely readers!

Today I want to write on a very important topic in management; it is delegation of authority. It means transferring certain responsibilities to one's juniors for the division of work load and efficiency on a holistic level.

http://www.plan-delegate-manage.com/

Delegation is sometimes not that easy for everyone rather, it is a very difficult job. Specially for those, who get promoted in the same organization to a higher post. They feel very uncomfortable in delegating tasks to their subordinates who were their colleagues a day ago.

However, a good leader understands the importance of delegation of work amongst his subordinates. It is a very effective tool to engage employees in such a way that, they feel a sense of responsibility and ownership at the same time. It also increases work efficiency in employees.

The time saved by delegating one task to the juniors can be utilized on other important issues. And the manager can refresh his competencies in other areas.

Here are some important tips for effective delegation. Enjoy!

Marketing
The heart of business success lies in its marketing. Most aspects of the business depend on  its successful marketing.

Marketing is a process by which a product or service is introduced and promoted to potential customers. Without marketing, the business may offer the best products or services in the industry, but none of the potential customers would know about it. Without marketing, sales may crash and companies may have to close.
Marketing is an investment in future sales.

As an entrepreneur, you must always be looking into the future and to the next sale. Customers need to be aware of your company and what it offers.
Marketing is the way in which you gain those customers.

Keep in mind the four P’s of marketing-
1.Product
2.Promotion
3.Price
4.Place

These four elements need to work in tandem to generate the consumer interest and trigger the buying response in the audience.

Lets look In this video  what the famous inventor “Steve Jobs” perspective is about marketing as a whole and why is important in the world of brands?

INNOVATION & CREATIVITY

Innovation is defined as adding something new to an existing product. It is also known as the tool of entrepreneurship . Creativity is a process by which a symbolic domain in the culture is changed. New songs, new ideas, new machines are what creativity is about. It is the ability to make or otherwise bring into existences something new, whether a new solution to a problem, a new method or device, or a new artistic object or form.It is the act of seeing things that everyone around us sees while making connections that no one else has made.It is moving from the known to the unknown.Innovation is the successful exploitation of new ideas.

No entrepreneur or enterprise, however successful and big, can continue to hold a place of leadership unless it recognizes that modern business operates in a world of galloping change which creates new problems, risk and opportunities and for which they have to mobilize the enterprise’s resources before changes make their impact felt. To be successful, the entrepreneur and enterprise should know where this firm is going and how the firm will get there. This in return requires a clear definition of the company’s business which will enable it to continually adopt operations to the realities of the market place, ‘the very corner stone of survival and growth”!!
All innovation begins with creative ideas. Creativity is the starting point for innovation. Creativity is necessary but not sufficient condition for innovation.Innovation is the implantation of creative inspiration.
